we´re still alive!
we´ve just been hanging out on the edge of civilization in a town hamlet named ritoque which not only didn´t have internet, but didn´t have a grocery store, or a gas station, or a post office, or much of anything except a beautiful beach and sunshine. in fact, it didn´t even really have a population. with only 15 residents, one hostal, and one resturant, it was quite the escape. pictures of all of that to come, but first lets go back to where i left off….
after leaving cloudy, rainy el chalten, we headed north about 12 hours to the small town of los antiguous, argentina which is so close to the boarder you could technically walk to chile… although immigration wouldn’t like that too much.
this town isn´t normally on the gringo trail, but we happened to hit it during the annual national cherry festival and went to take a look.
i only have a few pictures right now, but hopefully i´ll find a better computer to read my camera card later today or tomorrow and i´ll have more.
but, for now, i just have these from the festival rodeo!
(it bugs me how these are framed, but i was shooting through a chain link fence, and i can´t do any cropping here. just pretend the horses aren´t running out of the frame, okay?)
and one of the carnival area:
michael grew up with an uneasiness about the fair… convinced that all of the rides are destined to fall apart at any moment. i mean, i understand the nervousness about rides that are put up overnight and then spin you around at high speeds…. buuuut me and my brothers always loved going to the fair!
anyways, point is… no way ever, ever would michael have set foot on one of these rides, and this time i had to agree. 🙂
in addition to the pictures above, i also have a video i took on my camera at the rodeo which is so fun. one of the best parts of the event is the live band and commentary that goes along with each ride. i´d love to post it if i can find a computer fast enough to handle uploading a video!
lastly, in case you are wondering, we are now in santiago, chile! we´re here today and 1/2 of tomorrow and then we head to mendoza, argentina – wine country.
back with more soon…
ciao!
