just posting to say `hi`!
hanging out in patagonia can mean not-so-great internet connections, so i haven´t been able to get any photographs uploaded for days! and without pictures, i figured whats the use of posting?
but here i am anyways, posting without pictures. lame, i know.
hopefully we´ll have some good internet soon, but probably not too soon.
we are now in el chalten, argentina (i´ve updated the google map on the side bar) which is a tinnny little town at the base of the fitz roy mountain. to give you an idea of this town´s small stature: there is only one atm here (and supposedly it´s always out of money, so what´s the point?) and the road in was just paved with in the last year or two, the town is 3 times as long as it is wide, and you can walk the long way within 20 minutes, and (unsurprisingly) it has very slow internet connections. also, i´m sitting in the internet cafe with michael, 4 other humans, and two dogs. two very large, very dirty, very stray dogs. which isn´t really so much an indicator of the size of the town in argentina, but rather that we are, in fact, in argentina.
…anyways…
without pictures, what to post?
random ramblings, right!!?
so, here is list michal and i made of our time here in numbers. it has been just over a month since we left (33 days, to be exact) and a lot has happened. here are the stats:
12 cities
3 counties
14 passport stamps (riddle me that one, eh?)
4 national parks visited
124 hours spent on buses (we were shocked when we added them up!)
1 fall (but it was on a hike, so it doesn´t count)
0 injuries!
10 hostels
1 hotel
1 guest house (the family lived downstairs and they rent the three bedrooms upstairs. it was wonderful… like having a mom and a family for 3 days. she even did our laundry and served homemade bread for breakfast every morning.)
12 clean beds
1 dirty bed (still practically warmed from the last person that had just slept there… thing is, we knew it was dirty, even though the guy kept claiming it was clean. we were just sooo tired from the all night bus ride that we couldn’t bring ourselves to care enough to turn down the bed in front of us, which we knew to be the only one available. the next morning, they admitted that the room had not cleaned. not our best moment.)
6 books read by marissa (titles: a heartbreaking work of staggering genius, the used world, cry the beloved country, the old man and the sea, everything is illuminated, in patagonia)
1/8th of a book read by michael (titile: in patagonia)
1 bottle of sunscreen lost
2 sunburns (1 per person)
2 laundry days (don´t think about that too much, okay?)
1,336 pictures taken
150,000+ penguins we wished could be our pets
5 stray dogs we (aka, me) named and loved completely (glacier, sophie, puddles, lady, and lady lou… i have photographs of glaceir and puddles. i´ll post them when i´m back on the grid. you´ll love them too.)
20+ bowls of cereal eaten with room temperature milk
20+ wishes for cold milk
3-1/2 rainy days (today being one of them)
