the renovation begins

the renter in the condo we’ve been waiting the get our hands on has finally moved out and we inherited the place like this:

and within 24 hours, we had it looking like this:

those popcorn ceilings had to go… mainly because there had been some water damage from a leaky roof years back so the decision was to repair and re-popcorn the damaged parts, or just say good bye to the popcorn all together and move into the 21st century.
we choose the later.

this is just the very first step of lots to come and it was so nice to start with a bang!  it took the professionals three days to remove the popcorn, seal the ceiling, re-texture it (lightly), and paint.  we’d considered doing it ourselves, but i am oh-so-glad we brought in the pros.  it seemed like a lot of work with a lot of ways to screw up and a GIANT mess!

they just finished the ceilings today and tomorrow we’ll be starting to tape off the walls to paint them a nice, very boring, very sell-able (which is the ultimate goal) shade of beige.

we also have an electrician coming to install ceiling fans (i hate ceiling fans, but with michael, and in florida, it’s just non-negotiable) in the bedrooms, and replacing the dining room pendant, and putting in recessed lighting in the living room.  AND we have a handyman coming to assess the situation and take a gander at the long to-do list we have for him.

sooooo glad the work is finally beginning!  i’m really hoping we’ll be done by the first week of june!

projects to come: painting, flooring, blinds, door replacement, new door hardware, replace bathtub and toilet, new appliances, and total kitchen and bathroom cabinetry replacement… and more! yippppppy!

oh, hi
