what to wear

For dressing a family, I suggest choosing a color palette (typically 3-4 colors + white/grays sprinkled in) and then having everyone dress within those colors. That way, you aren’t matching exactly, but you are coordinating. You also don’t need to stick to only solids. Patterns within the palette will work well too.

There are no specific colors that need to be avoided all together, however overly saturated colors (think, neon pink or very bright red) are not advised as they can cast color onto skin.

Light colors and neutrals work best for newborns.

Starting with one winning outfit (I suggest starting with mom!) will make it easier to pull supporting pieces that work well with together.

While focusing on just color and pattern can be tempting, TEXTURES are just as important.

Linen, lace, velvet, jean, silk, wool, leather, cottons, embroidery…
Layer your fabric choices to add interest and dimension to your photographs.

PS: Don’t forgot bloomers for under little girl dresses and manicured fingers or clean, unpolished nails.

PPS: If we’re shooting on the beach or inside your home, I recommend everyone go barefoot!
