we were orignally supposed to be home tomorrow, but we have already been here, back in tampa, for a couple days.
the last week or our trip was initially to be spent in cusco and at machu picchu, but the inca city is still not accessible after the horrible floods in january. however, we thought cusco would still be worth the trip, even without the ultimate destination of machu picchu.
problem is, begining around february 23rd michael started feeling sick and couldn’t kick it. it continued as a really mild sickness until just a few days ago, on march 1st and 2nd when we were hiking down into the world’s 2nd deepest canyon and it really came to head. he was very ill on a very challenging hike and it was just incredibly unfun. we made it out of the canyon on mules but he could think of nothing but lying in a bed and trying to keep the nausea away and we decided going home a few days early would be the best plan.
so, on march 3rd we set out at 5pm to make our way back home from arequipa, peru and by march 4th at 10am we arrived in tampa, florida, usa.
we were able to spend michael’s bithday with his family and go to sleep in our own country in our own bed, which made all the difference.
michael is now feeling much, much better! we went to an infectious disease doctor, just to make sure everything is on the up and up, and things are lookin’ good. 🙂

i still have so much to share from our trip though! so, although we are back, i’ll keep writing about all the places we went in our last few weeks. then, after that, you are back to reading about our “normal” life.
the life with the two dogs, almost no income, and living at my mom’s in a room stuffed with boxes, while i try to start a business and michael tries to find a job in the worst economy for doing such things.
ummmm….i take it back… i really, really hope this isn’t our normal life!
maybe this next phase is called, “marissa and michael, as they try to dig themselves out of a hole!”
