a few years ago michael was on a really strong anti-seizure medicine which was supposed to treat this eye/vision problem he was having (it didn’t work. he later had surgery to finally fix it.).
the meds came with a host of side effects, the weirdest ones being that he all of the sudden hated the taste of coke and then became obsessed with chocolate.
for michael to not be passionately in love with coke was strange enough but the chocolate thing was what i found really funny.
this was all going on while we were in college and i was on the board of my sorority. it was around this time of year and i had bought a halloween-size package of individually wrapped snickers bars that I was using as prizes for girls who had gotten good test scores or finished a report, or something else positive academically. meanwhile they were calling michael’s name, loudly.
my meeting wasn’t until that night and i was going to be in classes all day but michael begged for a taste of that chocolate so i opened the brand new bag and gave him one but said i really needed the rest for my meeting.
i went to my classes and stopped back by the apartment to grab the candy before the meeting. as soon as i saw the bag i knew it was different. when i’d opened the bag that morning i had accidentally opened it sloppily and had ripped it down the side of the bag but this one was opened cleanly.
hummm… interestingly enough, all of the snickers were there except for one!
i told michael, ‘ i know this isn’t the same bag,’ and he looked at me shocked. he said, ‘how did you know!?!?’ i told him how i knew and he then sheepishly admitted that yes, he had eaten an ENTIRE package of individually wrapped snickers, hidden the wrappers, gone to target to get a new package, opened it and eaten one to hide the evidence.
