on our bus from mendoza, argentina to salta, argentina we awoke at 2am to a stange sound.
the window right behind our window, and right above the stair to the first level of the bus, had broken and shattered into a million pieces.
i don´t know why or how it happened since we were asleep. it was a double decker bus, which hits trees and branches ALL the time, because of its height. so maybe that´s what happened, but who knows. maybe it just spontaneously decided it was time to make a statement.
it was just really weird. we kept driving with the shattered window for about a half hour before coming to a small bus station where they swept up the glass and taped cardboard over the once window – now whole – in the bus.
the guy that was right next to the window got a minor cut. nothing too bad, but i´m glad i wasn´t sitting where he was.
as a result, now i have a heightened fear of the large bus windows inexplicably shattering.
which is a problem since our preferred seats on all double decker buses are to be right in the front with nothing but glass in front of us. but i really don´t think lighting will strike twice.
and speaking of buses… bus food.
ick.
the only thing we deemed edible on this occasion were those packaged bread sticks.
and see that black thing on the bottom right? this is some kind of weird jelly dessert. not recommended.
also, mayonnaise is served with everything at every meal (it´s hiding in that packet above the bread sticks). sometimes we cannot even figure out was one would even possibly put the mayo on — but it´s always there, just in case.
