a big apology to chile for glazing over their grand capitol, but i´m about to do just that.
here are three pictures.
that´s all you get.
sorry.
santiago was fine and well, but kind of hot and we weren´t there long, so i don´t have much to show.
we just walked around a lot and looked at their pretty, historic buildings and beautiful national library. but i didn´t take the camera out much.
also, we ate at a pizza hut. i know… weird. i wouldn´t eat pizza hut by choice in america, but lately we talk about american food about 4 hours every day and apparently we are desperate for it enough to eat in a freaking pizza hut. but, honestly, it was pretty goooood.
we left santiago (and chile, for good) and headed to mendoza, argentina. unfortunately, if we were hot in santiago, we were MELTING in mendoza. i think we caught them on the hottest days of the year.
we spent our first two days just trying to survive the weather eating cold things and sitting in air conditioned internet cafes. we resisted the urge to swim in the public fountains, but many did not.
popcicle break
on our third day, we decided, hot or not, we´d be going on a wine tour by bike. luckily, LUCKILY, the day was much nicer than the two previous. it was still really hot, but bearable.
we started the day at a wine museum, winery tour, and wine tasting here:
the grapes, just about ready to pick. the harvesting was to start just a week or so later
in the museum portion, they had a lot of information about the history of wine making. all of the tools displayed here were used, in the past, to make just one barrel. they each just have one specific purpose and every one of them was required.
after the winery we rode our rented bikes to a place that makes liquors, chocolates, olive oil, vinegar (the BEST balsamic vinegar ever! arggg! why wont they ship the the US?!), and various tapanades and such.
we could sample anything we wanted! it was really fun.
the most notable would be the absinthe, which neither michael and i had ever had… and we now plan to never have again. it was horrible!!! (and physically painful too)
liquors…
afterward we hit one more winery for more wine and lunch, al fresco.
and by then we were done.
mainly because i when i tried to read where the next winery was, i couldn´t focus on the words! eek.
and we still had to ride our bikes back, in traffic, into town.

so the day ended there. but it was a great day.
