we visited the perito moreno glacier today.
it was beautiful, and cold, and wonderfully fun.
it is totally amazing that it is summer here. it´s cold!!
i cannot belive this is their “warm” season.
the main activity when visiting the glacier is waiting for pieces to fall off, which happens all day long. you´ll hear a loud crack, and then a boom, and then see the splash. it´s a sport to try to be in the right place at the right time to acutally see the chunk fall and not just spot the splash afterward.
this is a pretty lame example:
it´s much more fun to see in person. that splash looks tiny here.
instead of just coming to see the glacier, we decided to do a tour that took us on/in/around the glacier!
after a boat ride and getting geared up with crampons on our shoes we were ready to tackle the perito mereno.
at the end of our hike, we ended at a make shift “bar” – as the guides called it – (aka, a table with glasses and a bottle of whisky) where they poured everyone shots and handed out chocolates.
also… turns out, michael and i are even cooler on a glacier than we are on land.
seriously, try not to be too jealous of how cool we are. ok?
cheers.
