…insights from megan…
how would you describe your wedding to someone who was not there? what were some of your inspirations?
how did you envision the wedding prior to your special day?
Intimate, personal, and family-oriented. The wedding had about 80 guests in my (Megan’s) parents’ backyard on the beach during sunset. My dad was the officiant and it could not have been more perfect. My 20 month old niece was the flower girl. Christian’s sister read a reading in German from their parents’ wedding. My sisters read a prayer that our parents wrote for their wedding. We wrote personal vows for each other and then did the traditional vows in both English and German since Christian is from Germany. It was a beautiful blending of cultures and family traditions. We will have a larger more formal wedding at a Church in Europe next year.
which three vendors were most important to you when planning your wedding?
1) Our photographer, Marissa Moss 2) Our food, Catering by the Family 3) Desserts, Wrights Gourment House and Always Sweet Cookies
what was your biggest wedding day splurge?
We hired a “live painter”, Terry Klaaren, to paint our wedding in real time. Everyone enjoyed watching the painting come to life as the night progressed. He did a fabulous job and it is amazing how we can identify various guests in the painting. It was worth every penny!
what was the best advice you received when planning your wedding?
As cliche as it sounds, but the best advice we received was to “soak it all in” and to make sure to spend time with each other rather than worry about the guests.
was there a moment during your wedding day that surprised you?
After the ceremony as we were watching the sunset, a group of dolphins swam by and surprised us all! Everyone joked that some people release doves at weddings while my dad hired dolphins. It was truly picture perfect and totally unexpected.
what was your favorite moment, or favorite part, of your wedding day?
We both agree that our favorite moment of the wedding day was the ceremony on the beach and watching the sunset together as husband and wife surrounded by our loved ones.
when you look back on your wedding day in 50 years, what do you think you’ll remember most?
We will always remember how we felt so surrounded by love from one another and all of our guests.
