let there be light!

we are not a handy bunch.  i mean, i try to do what i can…

i can check my oil, but i’ve never changed it.  i can patch a wall, but i’ve never hung drywall.  i can replace a light bulb, but i’ve never wired a light fixture.  i can set up a tv, but i’ve never run the cable.

…and all of the above goes for michael as well.  but today, michael stepped into a hat he doesn’t often wear: handy husband.

the light part of my mom’s light/fan combo in her room stopped working TWO YEARS ago and had never been fixed or replaced.  for two years the only light in her room has come from her bedside table light, which isn’t much.  why had she never gotten around to this?  i don’t know.  but we can say i inherited my household-handiness-deficiency from somewhere… and it’s not from my dad.

since michael and i have been making home depot and/or lowes trips about every other day lately, as we get the condo renovation underway, my mom finally decided to buy a new light and fan and asked us to pick one up for her, then, she planned to call an electrician to come install it next week.

well, the claim on the side of the box “FIVE MINUTE INSTALL” seemed to be just mocking michael and he decided he could handle five minutes of installing on his own…  and guess what?  IT WORKED!

not in five minutes exactly… it was actually closer to an hour…  but, when we flipped the power back on the room lit up!!!!!!!!

then we did a happy dance and high fived and couldn’t stop talking about how proud of him we both are.  it’s a big deal.

now we are going to go scrape the popcorn off the ceilings in the condo today!
….and by that, i mean we’ll be going to let the professional in to do the work!  …let’s not get carried away now.
