a while back i bought a groupon for a tour of giraffe ranch, a place we’d never heard of, but they had a nice website and it looked like it could be fun! i was really into going, michael… not so much. so, we decided to go ahead and buy the tickets through the groupon (or livingsocial, or crowdsavings, or whatever it was… i just call them all groupons) and would save it to use for my birthday.
so, two weekends ago, on the day after my 26th birthday, we headed out to dade city, about an hour’s drive away, completely unsure if this was going to even be worth the time to get there or not. long story short, it was awesome! we both loved it so, so much.
you can read more about the ranch on their website, here if you are interested: about giraffe ranch.
i’ll just stick to showing you our pictures…
also, i was going to wait and blog this on a week i had more spare time, which is certainly not this week, but when i saw a giraffe ranch livingsocial coupon in my inbox today i thought i’d go ahead a post so that if anyone wants to go you could get the tickets today for 1/2 off! here is the coupon link: giraffe ranch coupon which is good through the weekend! also, the are now selling the tour on camel-back for more than twice the cost of going in the vehicle, but honestly, i don’t think we’d go for that. i mean, i guess it’s cool to ride a camel, but it’s a pretty long tour and i’d rather be in the comfy safari vehicle thingy AND with the shade canopy overhead. it was HOT, so we were very glad to be in the the vehicle. also, the animals came right up next to the car (there are feed buckets on the sides, which help, hah) and i’m not sure what they do with the camels…
here are a few images from our day, but i have a lot that i liked, so look for the link at the bottom for the facebook album if you want to see more!
the day started out with the smaller animals which are housed right up next to the office.
this big ol’ tortoise who wanted to eat my toes right off my feet because they are painted bright orangey-red so he thought they were edible
(….or so the people said. maybe he was just mean and wanted to make me paranoid to look away from him for one second, which he did.)
little parakeets we got to feed
and now the driving part of the tour
and look! a zedonk! so very cute. half zebra, half donkey, and so not done on purpose. well, actually, the donkey did it on purpose.
the donkey-dad has since been banished to another pasture, and away from any zebra mingling…
a baby cow just a day or two old. umbilical cord still attached.
and lastly, feeding the giraffes!
and that’s michael giving him cabbage
the rest of the photographs, are on facebook, right HERE. : )
