i’m going to tampa this weekend!!! this is my very last “visit” to tampa before moving next month! the last red eye in, only to spend 48 hours rushing around, and plopping back on the plane to return to work on monday, so fast that no one even notices i was gone…
however, my attendance is required at my best friend’s wedding shower and bachelorette party (why does no spell check recognize the word “bachelorette”?? am I not spelling it right? is it not a word…) which are both this saturday!!
the plans have been in the works for quite sometime so michael made flight reservations well in advance… however, he just sent me the confirmation for my flight to tampa in an email on monday and i saw that my name was misspelled! see evidence here:
(i don’t know why i blurred some stuff… for the life of me i can’t figure out what malice one could do with that information, but i know my mother could dream up something terrible ending in poverty and/or death.)
i thought this little typo to be a huge problem! you can’t fly under a name that doesn’t perfectly match your ID right???
i told michael that they (or he?) misspelled my name and he replied, “no they didn’t, they just don’t have the space between your first name and middle initial.”
Hummm… first of all, i think that is really weird that didn’t occur to me at all. i read marissah as being a whole different name, not just marissa+h but obviously michael was right. that is certainly what happened. however, that didn’t seem to diminish the problem. it was still the wrong name. but (of course) mellow-mellow-michael didn’t see it as a problem at all and didn’t even think we needed to do anything about it. but i was SURE that this was going to be a problem! i saw a mountain of bad conclusions beginning with hours spent at the check-in counter, moving on to not being allowed on the flight at all, to ultimately this some how ending in poverty and/or death (hummm… where did i get this line of thinking…?)
he needed to call. i was sure of it.
well, he called to today and what do they say?
“oh don’t worry about it! that is just her middle initial. that is just how we do it.”
what?? i’m still completely confused how this supposed policy doesn’t result in 1,000 phone calls a day from people like me, but apparently michael was completely right.
so, now we just have to worry about the flight home… which michael couldn’t find proof of ever booking… and just realized today that is because he, in fact, never booked it…
minor detail.
so i guess i have i’m on one-way ticket to tampa and am moving home a month early!!!
he just booked a return flight this minute.
hopefully it is actually booked in the way that results in an actual booking, and not the method he used previously.
and hopefully he didn’t make the reservation for his mistress, marissah.
