here is our refrigerator before…
and there’s a squash & tomotao party going on over on the counter…
today there was also a stack of free edible los angeles magazines on the porch with the csa boxes and we took one home. in this magazine i read about fallenfruit.org, who, “encourage everyone to harvest, plant and sample public fruit, which is what we call all fruit on or overhanging public spaces such as sidewalks, streets or parking lots.”
apparently in los angeles it is legal to take public fruit (as defined above) as you wish. this is good to know since our neighbor’s apricot tree (i think they are apricots) calls to me daily and michael has always said i could look but not touch. there is also a tree on the other side of our block that is just dripping in limes right now. certainly more limes than they could ever need. i see limes in my future.
so anyway, back to fallenfruit.org – you can go to their website and find maps of different neighborhoods around LA where you can go and getcha self some free fruit. sweeeet.
if there is one thing i like more than fruit, i think it would be free fruit.
their motto is:
“take only what you need
say ‘hi’ to strangers
share your food
take a friend
go by foot”
