valparaíso´s carnival celebration is spread over three days and has many, many events and goings-on. our favorite: the parade our least favorite: the drum circle that gathered right outside our window and played until 4am each night. but let´s just focus on the good parts… homemade lolly pops roasted nuts street performers balloon art decorations...

valparaíso, chile is colorful and artsy. they seem to strive to find a way to decorate or celebrate every surface of the city. we stayed in the colorful hostal verde limon. these are just pictures from around town but the highlight of our visit was being there for the valpo carnival! pictures from that tomorrow....
after pucon – after the volcano and the all day up and down bike ride – michael and i needed a serious vacation from our own vacation. we found just such a rest in ritoque, chile. i talked about ritoque a few weeks ago on the blog here. it was a very, very quaint...
after our little “jaunt” up the volcano we needed a day to rest! but apparently just one day because the day after that we were biking over the river and through the woods. linda crossing the river the smoking volcano we were still with my dad and linda and it was a much tougher route...
i had a cup of hot chocolate back in punta arenas, chile, that was served like this: a cup of hot-hot, frothy, whole milk, served with chunks of good chocolate on the side, to be stirred in to my desired chocolate-y-ness. michael and i have been thinking of ways to work it into our life...
