carnival was fun but just went on way tooooo long.
i think it´s supposedly a week long celebration, but it seemed a whole lot longer than that. they keep dragging it out, and dragging it out…
i´m sure there is some kind of noble reason behind it all, but it´s evolved into an excuse to peg people with water balloons, shoot water guns, set off lots of fire crackers, and spray foam in everyones´ faces.
i think i´ve already talked about (aka, complained about) carnival here, so i´ll just leave this post to pictures (mostly). 🙂
not even the birds were safe! this little boy is foaming them.
and there were lots of birds to try to try to foam…
this dog was SO stressed out by all the firecrackers! he was wandering around, so sad and scared, with his tail between his legs until he found these soldiers, curled up next to one and finally felt safe enough to relax and sleep. it was really sweet.
the soldier tried to pretend to shoo the dog away, but really, we could tell he didn´t mind him one bit.
these kids were probably the ones that kept sniper shooting us the minute we walked in or out of our hostel. it was incredibly frustrating! especially since it just was not nearly warm enough to be walking around town all wet!
but by the end of the week, michael figured if we can´t beat ´em, join ´em.
(and look how freaking happy he is is about what he´s about to do!)
we teamed up with other kids (all under the age of 10) in the buildings next to and across from out hostel.
as soon as someone started walking down our quiet street the girls furthest up the street would dump and entire bucket of water on them from their perch across from us and on the 5the floor. then, usually, the victim would start running. that´s when we would start throwing water balloons all around them (but careful to never hit them, since a water balloon thrown from the 4th floor is a dangerous thing) and then, lastly, the sniper boys on the roof of the building to our right (shown above) would spray them with water guns.
we were a well oiled machine.
and this picture has nothing to do with anything… expect that it was taken in la paz.
